10 days from Tangier to Merzouga, Sahara Desert

day 1 Tangier – Tetouan – Chauen:

Arrival in Tangier and pick up at the port or airport of the same city. Departure to Chaouen, stop in Tetouan, the Spanish city, arrival in Chaouen, departure for a visit to the city of Chaouen. We will stroll through its streets and among its old houses of blue and white, and also contemplate its panoramic views. Accommodation and breakfast at the hotel and dinner in the square of Chauen.

day 2 CHEFCHAOUEN – VOLUBILIS – MEKNES , FES :

After your breakfast at the riad, our journey will start towards Volubilis crossing through Wazan and other villages of rifles, in Volubilis we will discover the Roman ruins and learn about the archaeological site of Moroccan history, after the visit of the ruins, we will drive to Meknes City, heritage of the 17th century, where we will stop for lunch and pass through the historic and huge walls of the medina, Bab El Mansour and enjoy a visit to the shrine of Moulay Ismail. After the visit of Meknes, we will head directly to the city of Fez, where you will spend the night in the riad.

day 3 Fez : Fez

visit with our guide. Full day dedicated to the discovery of the intellectual city of the kingdom. Numerous are the monuments that you will be able to visit: Medersas (Koranic schools): Chahrij, Bouinania Attarin. Souks, Fes El-Jedid, the Karaouine Mosque (first university in the world).

day 4 Fes -Ifran -Monkey Forest -Midelt – Erfoud

Breakfast. We start the day entering the Middle Atlas, passing through Ifrane, the “Switzerland” of Morocco, on a spectacular route that will take us through the magnificent cedar forests of the area, in pursuit of more arid landscapes. We cross the Ziz valley, rich in contrasts, and then head to our destination in Erfoud, the gateway to the desert.

day 5 MERZOUGA – SAHARA DESERT – CAMEL SURROUNDINGS

After breakfast at your riad, you can explore the local area before starting your camel ride; you will visit the Gnawa people, originally from Mali, Senegal and Sudan, in their village Khamlia, where you will learn about their music and lifestyle. Later, we will drive into the desert area to meet nomadic families and explore their way of life. Today our lunch will be a traditional Berber meal (Berber pizza). You will also have the option to visit the ancient city of Rissani, the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty, the current ruling royal family in Morocco. Rissani is surrounded by some 360 ksars (a fortified town with many towers) and has a large souk (an open market with four gates), which is held three times a week. Once called Sijilmassa, this was the gathering place for salt caravans, coming from Tombouctou in Mali. Here you will walk through the souk, selling spices, vegetables and clothes. Drive back to the village of Merzouga. In the afternoon, you will ride your camel, guided by an experienced camel driver to explore what is hidden in the middle of the highest sand dunes. Dinner will be served in front of the tent where you will spend the night.

day 6 Merzouga – Merzouga…

We wake up before dawn to watch the sunrise. Return by camel to the car for a ride around Merzouga after lunch back to your hotel.

day 7 desert Erg chebbi-Rissani-Todra Gorge-Rose Valley-Palmeral of Skoura- Ouarzazate

Departure by road to the palm grove of Rissani and Jorf located on the right bank of the Ued Ziz, then to the Ksar of Touroug, framed by spectacular oasis. Then we will pass through Tinejdad before reaching Tinerhir. After lunch we will walk through the Todra Gorges. Then we will go through the beautiful valley Boulmane Dades visiting Kelaa Me Gouna-Valley of the Roses, in full splendor during the month of May. Arrival in Ouarzazate, possibility of visiting the Kasbah of Taourirt which was the residence of the Pasha of Marrakech, night in hotel.

day 8 Ouarzazate _ Ait ben hadou __Marrakech

We follow a picturesque mountain road that crosses the High Atlas offering sensational views on our way to Marrakech. On the way we make an almost obligatory visit to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Hadou, distinguished by its charm and beauty and has been the natural set for many Holliwood movies over the years. Arrival in Marrakech overnight in Riad.

day 9 Marrakech / Marrakech

After breakfast, guided tour In the morning visit of this city that gave its name to Morocco. It extends in front of the majestic Atlas with snow-capped peaks part of the year. Its destiny is linked to that of the various dynasties that succeed one another and its tradition of political, economic and cultural metropolis has always dominated the history of the Maghreb, Marrakech is also the city show, where there is permanent party as you can see in the famous Jemaa el Fna Square, which for several centuries is the most incredible popular theater in the world: snake charmers, musicians, dancers, storytellers, pythonesses, actors, fortune tellers… In Marrakech there are countless sites to visit, for example, Medersa Ben Yussef, the Menara, the Museum of Dar Si Said, the Agdal Garden, the Saadian Tombs and the Badi and Bahia Palaces….
